Glass top tables, shower doors, glass entertainment centers, patio furniture and low un-filmed windows all pose serious threats to young children. Injuries are typically caused when children jump, sit or fall onto or into annealed or ordinary glass. This type of glass will break into jagged shards of glass that can cause severe lacerations, leaving disfiguring scars and damaging tendons and nerves. "Huge shards of glass are basically like knives. If they sever an artery, they can cause uncontrolled bleeding, and the injury can be fatal," says Amir Kimia, MD, of the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children's Hospital in Boston.

To date, with the exception of certain newer constructed doors and sliders, there are no standards for safety (tempered) glass in the home. With so many houses built prior to existing glass safety codes, a vast amount of homeowners assume they have tempered doors when in fact they do not. An accident waiting to happen?

OUR SUGGESTION

Put safety in the hands of experts. We conduct free in-home audits to inspect the types of glass located in all the areas of your home. We are trained to identify glass that needs to be made safe and glass that meets the required standard. Once determined which glass should be made shatter-proof, we will review all of your options and make the best recommendations to ensure safety in your home.

High Impact Glass Solutions strongly encourages typical “baby-proofing” with electric outlets plugged and cabinet locks attached. But in order to have a truly safe home, the risk of children being injured by lethal shards of glass must be eliminated.

OUR SOLUTION

LLumar Magnum Impact films are made with layers of polyester films bonded by special adhesives that form an invisible shield to hold glass shards intact. With this level of safety added to ordinary glass furniture, doors, and sliders, chances of serious injuries are dramatically reduced.
